"Anyone still think this stock is going to recover?"

Yes
Brand has very good potential in Asian market

Is this view simply naive?

Re: Recovery?? by million_dollar_mother

Well, that's the million dollar question (which, for obvious reasons, I feel qualified to answer). I'm expecting the SP to recover slightly if/when they re-commence paying dividends. Even a 0.25p divi would give a yield of 6% at the current SP, & they are still making enough profit to pay a small divi, but I can understand why they've chosen not to do so at present. They've clearly bitten off more than they can chew with this Singapore venture - it was clear at the time that it could've gone either way, but it hasn't paid off, mainly due to poor timing as much as anything. It still could come good, as the Far East is clearly a potentially massive market for their products, & it seems the only area where the company can grow revenue - the UK is done, I believe - any company still relying on the High Street for significant income are kidding themselves if they think there's any future in it. Anyway, at the present SP I think they're worth a punt, but I can't see the SP recovering to anywhere near former levels for years to come, or ever, for that matter.

Not just theFreehold property devalued a profit warning with it on trading by idontwanttolose

  Tue, 15 Aug 2017 15:02:00 GMT

Laura Ashley Holdings plc (the "Company")

Notice of Results & Trading Update

The Company will announce its full year results for the 52 weeks to 30 June 2017 on 23 August 2017.

The results will show an exceptional £2.8m impairment charge due to the revaluation of a freehold property owned by the Group. In addition, and as previously disclosed, trading conditions have continued to be demanding. The Board of the Company therefore expect net pre-tax profits for the year ended 30 June 2017 will now be materially below market expectations.

Freehold property devalued by winningstreak

Did the Company not buy a Freehold Property from one of the
directors? Would that be the property that has be devalued?
See today's RNS.

Good start. I'm up about 7% on day one. Not bad. Press onto 14p near term then 20p in a couple of years.

Nice to see the increase. I too held these when they were 11p years ago 2009 ish. Went back in last year at 23p but grabbed 5014 more at 9.93p. Way oversold imho. Averaging 18p now. Hope the divi is held at least 1p a year. Fingers crossed it tracks back up.

Re: Pension Fund by TX2

  Tue, 06 Jun 2017 09:59:00 GMT
Yes it is always important to look at the financial position of any remaining Defined Benefit Pension schemes in any company before investing.Defined Contribution Pension Schemes which are now the norm throughout the private sector and present no problems because the employer has no liability beyond the agreed contributions. These unlike defined benefit ones do not appear on the balance sheet although a note is given in accounts that appropriate agreed contributions have been given.
ALY's shortfall is manageable and should in theory be at or near a high point as bond yields on which its valuation is based are very low.

There are of course other reasons why it might not be wise to buy shares in ALY or other retailers at the moment!

Re: Pension Fund by Eagerbeaver66

The pension fund was detailed in unusually frank in detail in their 2015 report, and there was minimal change in 2016, so that situation is probably similar now.

Sorry for the (absence of) formatting!

27 Group Pension Arrangements The Group operates a funded pension scheme in the UK, which offers both pensions in retirement and death benefits to members. The scheme has both defined benefit and defined contribution sections, although the defined contribution section is relatively small.
The scheme is closed to new members. With effect from 1 September 2005, the defined contribution section was established and in-service members ceased to accrue benefits within the defined benefit section, although such members’ pension benefits remain linked to their final salary at retirement and their length of service before 1 September 2005.
Except where stated otherwise, this note refers only to the defined benefit section of the scheme.
In addition to the Group’s contributions on behalf of members of the scheme, the Group’s deficit contributions to the defined benefit section of the scheme for the year beginning 1 February 2015 will be £900,000. In addition, the Group will pay the cost of insurance premiums and the expenses associated with running the scheme (including regulatory levies).
A full actuarial valuation of the scheme was undertaken in the latter part of 2014 by a qualified independent actuary and these accounting results have been updated to 31 January 2015 to take account of benefit accrual and outflow during the period. The major assumptions used by the actuary are (in nominal terms) as follows: As at 31 Jan 2015 As at 25 Jan 2014 As at 26 Jan 2013 As at 28 Jan 2012
As at 29 Jan 2011 Discount rate 3.00% 4.50% 4.60% 4.70% 5.60% Rate of salary increase 2.80% 3.30% 3.40% 2.90% 3.40% Rate of increase to inflation-linked pensions in payment 2.00% 2.40% 2.60% 2.20% 3.40% Rate of increase in revaluation in deferment 2.00% 2.50% 2.70% 2.20% 2.90% Rate of inflation 2.80% 3.30% 3.40% 2.90% 3.40%

The accounts give no details of the pension fund situation.

Without those details I would not invest in this company.
